Friday, Lethal Rhythms posted several wedding trends so far in 2011, and today we’ll share some cake trends with you! Lethal Rhythms had the pleasure of working 3 weddings over the weekend, and we must say– all of the cakes we tasted were delicious!
This year many cakes are elegant, yet simple. Decoration is minimal with soft colors. Instead of having loud and bright cakes, brides are opting for understated floral designs, often featuring roses or hydrangeas.
Another current trend in cakes is height! Cakes have grown taller this year; couples are choosing stunning wedding cakes with lots of layers. Even if the wedding is small with a short guest list, the cake can still keep its height! Frosted and decorated fake cake layers can be placed between real ones for the appearance of a tall cake.
Also, buttercream frosting is making quite a comeback this year! While fondant looks smooth and pristine, many brides are choosing delicious cakes iced with actual frosting! Plus with an experienced and steady hand, a smooth look can definitely still be achieved with buttercream frosting.
